Gardeners of every kind want their plants to grow in soil that holds plenty of moisture yet at the same time drains well and lets plenty of air reach the roots. To accomplish this they make frequent trips to their favorite Landscape Supply Yard to buy Loam. It’s not a secret that loam can paint most thumbs green in the blink of an eye and gardeners love loam.

What is loam and why does it make even novice gardeners look good? Loam is made up of  sand, silt and clay, usually combined in a 40 – 40 – 20 percentage ratio.

Humus is the dark organic material in soils, produced by the decomposition of vegetable or animal matter and essential to the fertility of the earth.
