What is Granite and how can I use Granite in Landscaping? The first part of the question is easy to answer, granite is rock that was formed from lava a long time ago. Granite comes in a variety of colors from pink to many shades of gray and black. If you were living in ancient Egyptian times you might use a reddish granite in building a pyramid or in landscaping your palace. Granite had long been used in sculpture such as life size elephants in India or columns in places of worship around the world.

I’m not sure if a life size elephant carved out of granite is what your landscape design calls for but granite can add beauty and strength no matter how you use it.

When you use granite you’ll not only be adding beauty to your landscaping project you’ll also get something that will last and last. Granite also can be customized to meet your landscaping needs, maybe you want stepping stones made of black granite cut in a round shape or maybe you want the steps leading to your patio 4 feet wide. If you do want something custom make sure you deal with a Landscape Supplier that has experience with different granite suppliers.

One thing you see in front of buildings and in parks is the obelisk that has been engraved with a story or poem to commemorate an important person or event. Why not think of creating your own Granite slab engraved with a poem or story and add it to your landscaped garden, something you can read while you de-stress from the world or create a space for spiritual reflection using an engraved granite slab.

I came across a wonderful website called Granite Gardens, it’s a collection of granite sculptures by Vermont artist Jeane Wolfe. Check out her site for some ideas to create your own landscape project and she just might inspire you to give her a call for something really imaginative.
